“…because I rant not, neither rave of what I feel, can you be so shallow as to dream that I feel nothing?”
R.D. Blackmore, Lorna Doone: A Romance of Exmoor
It is not to say that introverts never talk it is just that we are careful to whom we talk to and what we bring up. We don’t just go up to any person and start a random conversation. No, we observe the people and hear a little of each conversation before deciding what group we want to to walk up to and join. Although we may have joined a group at this point, we listen more than talk. We might give a chuckle here and there or laugh when others laugh. Sometimes we might just leave that group finding it a bore or we feel more alone than we did when standing by our self.
For me, I do not like to tell everyone what is going on in my life. I usually tell my friends or will post how I am feeling on face book, but never say why I am feeling that way. That is probably more stupid than brave on my part. That is one way introverts may express ourselves. We might right it down on a piece of paper in letter form because we might be to afraid or nervous to say the words face to face to the person. I have done that on occasion, even to my own parents. Writing this blog is a big example of expressing myself. With introverts people have to get answers from us like one has to peel an onion, on layer at a time. And do not push us or pressure us, we will open up given the proper time.
Truly, once you get to know an introvert you will be amazed at you this person really is. We have crazy sides and dark sides. We really are not robots, we do have feelings as you will be amazed at what we will tell you regarding our feelings. Honestly, I love to have fun and goof off, but seeing me right of you would not know that. I love to play lazier tag and want to learn to shoot a bow and arrow. I want to be a companion to the Doctor for a whole season! I have problems of my own and in then end I can no longer hold them inside though I try really hard. I love action packed movies with violence. I know it is not real, so I am cool with it. I love to sing to songs on the radio, I belt them out. I do not like swearing and even tell people “don’t swear”. I despise it. Introverts are just like extroverts, we just need time and people who are willing to wait.
